I’m looking forward to this movie more than I did for Ep VII. Maybe because it’s set in the same time period as Ep. IV, but it also promises not to be a rehash of the original movie. The trailer, and that poster, is pushing all my buttons.

I am a touch worried on the Reshoots. The idea that the movie was dark and a ‘war movie’ sounded perfect for how scary the Empire is supposed to be.

I think the reshoots will forever be a point of contention in Star Wars discussions...perhaps more so than some of the Special Edition stuff (‘cept that Han totally shot first).

Though, I do hope there is a release of the original edition of this someday.

Maybe I’m showing my age, but with each new Star Wars movie, I get more and more nervous. The bar is so high for these stories, and their creators have demonstrated that they are not always able to reach it.

Human wave tactics have never been so appropriate until now. And is that an ex-CIS commando droid on the far left?

The whole gravity thing took a bit of a break, but i’m so excited it’s scary.

so the “empire” built a fourth death star?

That’s it, I am done. they going to hit the weak point for massive damage again? will there be an older, wise mentor that dies and his body disappears? will the protagonist be born on a desert planet, travel to a rough cantina, fight a dude with a red laser sword and a mask?

Fuck you disney.

See, I enjoyed it okay, but there were just too many disappointing aspects for it to rise to the level of the original three (or more accurately, the first two). I not even kidding when I say that I think getting older (and nostalgia) is also changing how I appreciate these movies.

What did you find disappointing? I had such low expectations that they really couldn’t help but exceed them.

The biggest one was that they came up with another Death Star to blow up. The characters even said as much as “hey, there’s always a way to blow these things up; we’ve done this before, right?” I was also troubled by the fact that they set up the main bad guy as being so bad ass (freezing a laser bolt in midair! How freakin’ cool is that?!), and then he is bested in open combat by a girl who is just starting to discover her connection with the force. That didn’t follow in my mind. But, at least no one talked about midichlorians. I think I might have asked for my money back if they had.

Sad that they killed Han, but psyched to see Luke back!

Disagree all you’d like, but TFA was perfection in what it set out to accomplish.

JJA wanted to have a fun romp through that Galaxy, Far, Far Away that briefly introduces us to the new heroes and villains and sets the stage for the future stories they have to share.

Yes, it is quite a bit like ANH. That is intentional and it worked flawlessly. We meet the new characters. We see enough to pique our curiosity about them. We see them connect with our former heroes. And it leaves us wanting to know more.

Yes, there are plot holes galore. Episode 4 is also a cinematic colander.

I, for one, and very excited to see what The Mouse can do with these stories. There are enough people working on these that understand that you DO NOT fuck this up to make me giddy about the next installments of this saga.

Disagreement has nothing to do with it. How people enjoy these stories is a very personal thing, and you can’t make everyone completely happy all the time. For me, the bar was set by the mind of an nine year old little boy who saw the very first movie for the first time when it came out in theaters, and then drove an x-wing fighter home from the back seat of the car with a windshield scraper as a joystick. Hard to live up to that memory. Still, through all the Jar-jars, the midichlorians, the eight year old pod drivers, and the Death-Star-plot-device-that-won’t-die, I’ll likely still find something to enjoy in whatever they produce next. I’m just recalibrating my expectations.

I ignore video, cartoons, books outside the movie novelizations, and anything in the so-called “extended universe”. Not that there’s anything wrong with them. More Star Wars is good because it keeps the brand alive. But, I’m something of a purist in my personal entertainment.

I’m also the guy who has seen all the Highlander movies and most of the TV show, but still considers the first movie to be the only “real” Highlander .

And that would be really cool, as long as they make her work for it. That’s so deep in the fabric of the Force mythos, and it’s important they don’t forget it.

Luckily not, it’s the first one. Rogue One is set before Episode IV, with a group of rebels trying to steal the Death Star’s plans. It’s set apart from the characters and main storylines of the trilogies, so here’s hoping they come up with something cool and somewhat original.

Either way, I won’t be going to see it. I wish the star wars universe the best, but that shit with the last movie killed it for me.

The Clone Wars and Rebels are actually very good, Rebels especially.

The prequels are horrid (save for Natalie Portman’s shirt in 2).

Also, Highlander always gets miscategorized; it should be under documentaries.

Agreed. That and light saber duels are always cool.

And so very 80's!
